Аннотация: El pretérito perfecto compuesto es una de las formas del sistema verbal español más problemáticas. La difícil delimitación respecto al pretérito perfecto simple y su enorme dispersión dialectal, así como la variación que ofrece en su contraste con otras lenguas románicas, son las principales razones de ello. Entre los autores no hay consenso sobre si debe entenderse como una forma de naturaleza temporal o aspectual o, incluso, como se ha defendido últimamente, modal. En este trabajo defendemos la naturaleza esencialmente temporal de la forma y analizamos su idiosincrasia funcional y semántica como fruto de la diversa interacción de las dos categorías (o vectores) que lo componen: la simultaneidad y la anterioridad. Defendemos que estos dos elementos, especialmente la simultaneidad, actúan diferentemente en el perfecto compuesto en función del contexto lingüístico y comunicativo y son responsables de su enorme variación. Proponemos un modelo de cuatro tipos de combinación de los vectores que pueden ejemplificarse en distintas lenguas románicas y en distintas variedades del español, además de explicar la evolución semántica de la forma. Así, partiendo de estudios empíricos propios y ajenos, ofrecemos una descripción global del perfecto compuesto en español que atiende a su diversidad dialectal, pero que intenta explicarla uniformemente como efecto de su composicionalidad temporal.
